Stefan Erhalder

I’m basically a sound designer, recording engineer, ex drummer, video producer and radio show host. And I like to play around with cameras and synthesizers.

Here’s the short bio:

Erhalder is a Basel based sound engineer and composer, specialized in jacking techno, acid and classic electro. Besides his main activity in the studio he plays live performances and runs his own fm radio show «SlackJackerz – The Rave Channel» together with Gert 3000. He is 50% of Aux Couture, together with Nenad J., who runs Aerobik records.

And the long one:

In the beginning of the 90s Stefan Sommerhalder (aka Erhalder) was introduced to electronic music whilst taping tons of pirate broadcasts from early techno parties. A couple of years later, the passionate funk drummer began to use his 286 computer as a musical instrument, enabling him to realise his ideas without a band and no budget. He started by using free software know as «trackers» today, one of the oldest tools available to make computer music without any external gear, midi or money.

His sound is mainly influenced by early Chicago techno, acid house, uk hardcore and classic hip-hop. The minimalistic sound of Wolfgang Voigt’s Studio 1 series later became a big influence too.

In 2002, Singapore, he released his first 12?, as head and producer of the subversive performer-collective daftN0!ze, a blend of raw funk beats, rave elements and bits of gangstacore madness. Around 2004 he started playing live performances with a new techno oriented sound. Since more than 20 years, Erhalder runs his monthly fm radio show «SlackJackerz – The Rave Channel» together with Gert 3000 from 20kbps records. He is 50% of Aux Couture, together with Nenad J., who runs the Aerobik records label.

Besides that, he works as a sound engineer, loves italian food and retro gaming.
